While at the University of Northern Iowa I completed 2 one act original plays and a two act play that was modernized, all of which were performened in the Interpreters Theatre. One of the plays was written by a graduate student Harrison Postler "Clogging the system" and the other one act play was an original by Dr. Paul Siddens III, collaborated with 4 other main writers and myself along with several over students and faculty. The two act play was a modernized verzion of Dantes Inferno by Dr. Paul Siddens III and Directed by Katie Grassi.
During the production of "Clogging the system" I had a role of the co-worker, "Gary" who works in a company that wants to build a new building but they needed a brand new idea never been done before. Two other employees who thought they are out of the only job they had, decided to pull the best prank right before they get fired! They tell their bosses to put toilets in the middle of the offices and employees will become more bonded. What they didn't know was they were going to have to tell everyone in the company that the bosses decided to go with their new idea!
My second play at UNI was an original one act play that Dr. Paul Siddens III had started years ago, but had only wrote one scene and needed help writing the rest of the play and being the lead team to create the show in just 9 short months. The play is about a small high school in modern time that undergoes a high school shooting. The play is narrowed into 1 class room and with the use of video we were able to recreate flashbacks of the characters, that only the audience could see. In this performance I was Cody Gordon, the weirdo who saves the day. I also helped write the play in its entirety along with hours of collaboration with other writers; I helped design, build and paint the set to match the theme that the director wanted of a modern classroom; and I was the main lighting technician for this show. One of my main focuses for the show was to create the video inserts to show a full flash back for the audience so they can better understand what is happening why in the play. I was the main videographer and editor for these productions.
The final production was the modern adaptation of Dantes Infuno that Dr. Paul Siddens III had orgianially performend several years ago, but with new technology, corporations and sins in the world ther was a need to create a peice that would relate to the youth of the 21st century. I helped write this show during my final year of my undergrad and returned after graduation to help build, create and produce the masterpeice. Under the direction of Dr. Paul Siddens III and Katie Grassi, I was the Lighting Director, Technical Director, Audio Director and helped with character performance. This play took all levels of Hell and turned them into reality with sinners and tormentors, perfomed on one stage. The challange to modernize the play, that was an original peice taken from the book, was a true inspiration on what our world has really come to and what we can do to make ourself better about the sins we induldge our selves in.
